Hello once again from Stade’s Farm and Market! Welcome and thank you to our new subscribers who signed up while shopping at our market recently. Here is a brief overview on what’s going on here this spring at Stade’s Farm and Market.
Now that spring is finally in full swing, that means we are too. It has been a long and cold, and very wet spring. Even with the cold and wet weather we have done a great deal of planting. We have planted asparagus, potatoes, strawberries, sweet corn, broccoli, cabbage, beets, green beans, kohlrabi, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, onions, and zucchini. We are about two to three weeks behind in the growing season, so please be patient.
We have three to four plantings of sweet corn done with one more to go. The planting ends around August 1st so we can continue to have the annual veggies until the first frost which is normally about October 15th.
The perennials (strawberries and asparagus) have a shorter season. Asparagus season is May 1 through June 15, and the strawberry season is from June 15 through July 10. Get them while you can!
Speaking of strawberries, this is our first season of U-pick strawberries as many of you know. Everyone here is VERY excited about it! The crop is looking excellent, although we have had to protect them from the frost a few times this month.
We do this with irrigation. We sprinkle water on the plants during the night when the temperature at ground level approaches 34 degrees Fahrenheit. As water freezes it actually gives off heat thereby protecting the plants. Sprinkling must continue all night until the temperature rises when the sun comes up.
We anticipate opening for U-pick strawberries around June 15. Please check our website at
www.stadesfarmandmarket.com for updates. Also, if you have family or friends you think would like to receive this newsletter, please have them sign up on our website. It’s easy! It’s free! And your privacy will be protected.
Also remember we are now open at the farm market on the home farm on Miller Road. We have fresh cut asparagus as well as bedding plants. We will be adding other home grown products as they develop. We hope to see you soon and throughout the season. Remember to watch the website for those updates!

Vern's Visions
Our new market building on our farm is now open for the season. It is full of country charm and hospitality. I encourage everyone to stop by for a visit—you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Over the years, the Stade farm has hosted many events including festivals, concerts, parties, and worship services. Some have brought great success and others not so great. It has always been my goal to maintain a wholesome family atmosphere. We are now scheduling entertainment for our annual Shades of Autumn festival which will run on weekends beginning September 20th and go through October 31st.
Last year, as many of you know, we held outdoor worship services on Sunday mornings at 10:00am during Shades of Autumn. This year we would like to continue our Christian outreach by inviting churches in our area to participate. Our goal is to hold the services on Sunday mornings from July through October. We have a beautiful pavilion/stage with lawn seating that is an ideal setting for outdoor worship.
If you are a member of a church that may be interested in holding an outdoor worship service here at Stade’s Farm and Market, let us know. Please give us a call or send us an e-mail if you would like to participate in our outreach effort.
